Joint strengthening by external bars on RC beam-column joints

Column strengthening is a very common practice for improving the seismic performance of reinforced concrete frame structures or repairing damage after event. Several methods are employed column strengthening, which can improve strength by preventing its shear, bending compression failure. However, not all allow connections between adjacent floors, thus beam-column joint could be limited column-joint interface capacity. This work aimed to analyse two designs, an experimental campaign eight full-scale joints strengthened with steel caging, and subjected cyclic gravity loads, was carried out.
